iOS 4.2 coming to the iPhone and iPad

After a long wait, iOS 4.2 is finally becoming available, bringing long awaited features to the iPad and adding some to the iPhone and iPod Touch. If all goes well, this update should become available on Friday, around 10:00 AM PST, 6:00 PM in the UK! In order to apply this update you will need to also update your iTunes to version 10.1.

The main purpose of this update is to
bring the iPad up to speed with features already available on its smaller cousin, the iPhone, such as multitasking. Yep, multitasking is still not available on the iPad, can you believe it? Other features that will be added to your favorite iDevices are printing and content streaming, as well as a few cosmetic changes. If you have the older iPhone 3G, sorry, not all features will make it to your phone.

With all these amazing features though, the one thing most expected for most users is actually a much simpler thing. A bug fix to allow the alarms to go off at the right time! First in New Zealand and Australia time zones, in Europe a couple weeks ago and in the Americas last weekend, with the Daylight Saving Time change, the iPhones started waking up their oblivious owners one hour later than the time set in the alarm. Employers were not happy either! This bug is now being fixed in this latest release of the iOS and a lot of regular users of the iPhone are looking forward to this fix much more than any added features or improvements.

Update: iOS 4.2 release has been postponed to next week, apparently to some issues with the iPad wireless connection.
